We have a match!

On April 3, 2009, we received an email asking us if we would be interested in H, a 2 ½ year old girl in CT. We were intrigued, so we asked more questions. We still had more questions but were told that we were premature and that they would be answered when and IF we were chosen to attend a disclosure meeting.

On April 22, 2009, we received word that teaming had occurred and we were part of a 3 way tie for H. Then on May 5, 2009, we were offered a disclosure meeting and told that we were now one of two families, as one family was chosen for another child and had dropped out.

Today we attended that meeting and learned a great deal more about H. After the meeting, we met with our social worker over coffee and discussed the pros and cons. She suggested that if we wanted to move forward we could email H's worker when we got home, or else think some more over the weekend and contact her on Monday.

After our social worker left, we realized that we were feeling that this was definitely the match that we had been searching for. As we were driving home, we talked things over and decided that we couldn't wait until until Monday to contact the social worker with our decision, so we called her right from the car. To our surprise she wanted to know if she could get right back to us after she discussed things with her supervisor. 20 minutes later (we were still in the car) she called back to let us know that we were the first choice for H!

Since last July when we formally started the adoption process, we have inquired about 42 girls in 22 different states. With each inquiry, we would wonder, "Is this the daughter that God has planned for us? How will we know?"

It was truly amazing that in the span of 4 hours H went from a virtually unknown little girl to OUR little girl- and that this decision was essentially no decision. It just felt right, like this was what God had planned for us all along.
